DIY Hair Masks

In recent years, DIY hair masks have grown in popularity as people try to find ways to improve the condition of their hair without using harsh chemicals. These hair masks, which are made from natural ingredients, can be easily made at home and are said to provide numerous benefits for hair health

Below are several types of hair mask categorized by hair type/concern. 

 

Straight Hair

Ingredients:

  • Banana
  • Olive Oil
  • Honey

 

Mash a banana and blend it together with olive oil and honey to create a moisturizing mask that will help to strengthen and thicken hair. Apply the mixture to hair and let it sit for 30 minutes. Wash hair with a sulfate-free shampoo. Use this mask 1-2 times a week.

 

Wavy Hair

Ingredients:

  • Egg Yolk
  • Avocado
  • Castor Oil

 

Mix an egg yolk, avocado, and castor oil together until you have a smooth consistency. Apply the mixture to hair and let it sit for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, wash it out with a sulfate-free shampoo to prevent the mask from being stripped from hair.

 

Curly Hair

Ingredients:

  • Rice
  • Water
  • Avocado

 

Make rice water by soaking 1 cup of rice in 2 cups of water. Mix the avocado with the rice water. Apply the mixture to hair and scalp. Let it sit on hair for 15-20 minutes, then wash with a sulfate free shampoo.

 

Dry Hair

Ingredients:

  • Coconut Oil
  • Aloe Vera

 

Blend aloe vera with coconut oil for a moisturizing mask that will combat hair loss, promote hair growth along with reduce inflammation with aloe vera’s calming capabilities. Apply the mixture to the scalp and let it sit for 15 minutes. Wash the mask out with a light shampoo.

 

Oily Hair

  • Castor Oil
  • Tea tree Oil
  • Baking Soda

 

Blend castor oil, tea tree oil, and baking soda together to create an oil absorbing mask. Apply the mask to the scalp and let it sit for 15 minutes. Wash it out with a sulfate free shampoo and see the results.
